Visit to Jakarta (Indonesia)
From June 26-29, as part of the pilot project of the Global Centre for Disaster Statistics (GCDS), Prof. Yuichi Ono and Mr. Takuya Ito (Co-researcher) visited Jakarta (Indonesia). This visit was conducted together with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP),which we have concluded an MoU with, as well as our partner institutions, the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) Indonesia Office, and an ICT firm. The group visited government agencies in Indonesia related to disaster risk reduction: the National Disaster Management Authority (BNPB), Statistics Indonesia (BPS), the Ministry of National Development Planning (BAPPENAS), and the Geospatial Information Agency (BIG).
Concerning BNPB and BPS, an agreement was reached with the Indonesian government on a framework concerning the provision of data from the two organizations to GCDS, through UNDP. Centering on the collaboration between UNDP and BNPB, we will now go on to create a cooperation system in which we receive data from the Indonesian government, then analyze the collected data so it can be utilized in the government’s policy decision making. In addition, with BAPPENAS and BIG, discussions were made on future opportunities to share data, and also on the needs concerning data analysis.
Furthermore, we were able to confirm the detailed schedule and content regarding the global database to be established in GCDS with the ICT firm, our partner institution, making the visit to Indonesia even more meaningful.
