Open-ended Intergovernmental Expert Working Group on Indicators and Terminology Relating to Disaster Risk Reduction
From November 14-18, the final session of the Open-ended Intergovernmental Expert Working Group on Indicators and Terminology Relating to Disaster Risk Reduction (OIEWG) was held in Geneva, Switzerland.
Prof. Yuichi Ono attended the meeting as an expert within the Japanese delegation, contributing to the negotiations, based on the long time experience on global disaster risk reduction strategies, and the lessons
learnt from the Great East Japan Earthquake and Tsunami. At the last day of the session. OIEWG have adopted report including recommendation of the indicators and terminology to measure the seven global targets incorporated in the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction, which will be submitted to the UN general assembly.
Also, on November 15, Prof. Ono participated in a side event
organized by governments of Korea, Mexico, etc.held during the session, introducing the Global Centre for Disaster Statistics and the “World Bosai Forum/IDRC 2017 in Sendai,” receiving positive responses.
