Reports on APRU Multi-Hazards Program’s activities, APRU International Policy Advisory Committee (IPAC) Meeting in Hong Kong
On March 23 - 24, Associate Professor Takako Izumi attended the International Policy Advisory Committee (IPAC) Meeting of the Association of Pacific Rim Universities (APRU) in Hong Kong, where she reported on APRU Multi-Hazards Program’s activities and announced its schedule for 2017. This meeting takes place annually and important decisions are made on APRU’s activities, management and future visions. IRIDeS serves as APRU Multi-Hazards Program secretariat office, working on joint research for disaster and various other activities including Summer School and Campus Safety Program. We also aim to contribute to discussions for policy-making in Asia and other international regions. Having participated in various international meetings such as the UN World Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction, Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction, Asia Ministerial Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction and UNISDR Asia Partnership Meetings, we have shown the importance of academia’s roles in disaster risk reduction. APRU plans to take part in the World Bosai Forum scheduled to be held in Sendai on November 25th – 28th this year. We will continue to tell the importance of active involvement of academia and science technology in disaster risk reduction and contribute to promoting cooperation with stakeholders.
